Cyberattack on breathalyzer industry leaves drivers stranded across US

A cyber attack on a US car insurance company has left drivers in the United States stranded and unable to park their cars.

The company, Intoxalock, says so on his website that it is “currently experiencing a break” after the cyberattack on March 14. Intoxalock sells breathalyzer devices that fit into the ignition of a car, and are used by people who have to give a bad breath of alcohol to start their car.

Intoxalock spokesperson Rachael Larson confirmed to TechCrunch that the company was hit by a cyberattack. Larson said the company took steps to “temporarily suspend some of our operations as a precautionary measure.”

These breathers are supposed to be replaced every few months or so, but a cyberattack has left Intoxalock unable to manage this. The company said that customers whose devices require control may experience delays in starting their vehicles.

Drivers sending on Reddit they say that cars can’t drive if they miss, locking drivers out of their cars.

According to local reports in Mainedrivers are experiencing traffic jams and some are unable to start their cars. One stop car dealership in Middleboro he told WCVB 5 in Boston that it has been closed to traffic for the entire week due to cyber security.

Reports from the United States indicate drivers have been affected from new York to Minnesotaand drivers are unable to drive because their breathing systems cannot be adjusted immediately.

Intoxalock did not say what type of cyberattack it is experiencing, such as ransomware or whether there was a data breach, or whether it has received any communications from hackers, including any ransom demands. The company’s technology is used in 46 countries, its website says, and it says it serves 150,000 drivers each year.

Intoxalock did not provide a time frame for its recovery.
