During the reality singing competition on Monday, February 2, Underwood and her fellow judges, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryanlistening to Season 24 is full of hope Hannah Harper performing her original song “String Cheese.”
Harper explained that the song was written to reflect her experience with postpartum depression, to which Underwood, 42, reacted emotionally.
"It’s the most relatable song I think I’ve ever heard," american idol Season 4 winner, has sons Isaiah, 10, and Jacob, 7 husband Mike Fisherexplain. “You’re probably my favorite person to walk through these doors.”
Underwood continued, “When we leave here, I’m going to think of you. I’m going to support you. I love everything you do.”
The trio of judges then approved Harper for the next round of auditions.
Harper’s song lyrics go like this: “Hot wheels and little people at my feet/The baby’s crying, it’s pure chaos, but I’m not missing a beat/Always knew the 9-to-5 wasn’t really for me/But my hours are extended, and that’s what motherhood is.”
Harper, the mother of three, told Underwood, Richie, 76, and Bryan, 49, about her lyricism, and she spilled her words after sharing a poignant moment at home with one of her children. “I was sitting on the couch rolling around…you have boys and, you know, everyone wants to touch you,” she explained. “I didn’t want to be touched. I was just having a pity party and praying to the Lord to calm my spirit.”
Harper continued, “My son keeps coming up to me, ‘Mom, open this. Mom, open my cheese.'” I’m like, ‘Leave me and Dagram cheese alone.’ “
Harper added that she felt a huge sense of maternal responsibility when she opened her son’s string cheese. “I realized God had put me in that place,” she told the judge. “The greatest ministry I can have is where I am at home.”
Underwood said in a 2016 interview red book Magazine — As the country music singer tackles life with young children — working moms need to “get help.” She told the outlet at the time, “It’s hard for me to accept help, but I’m learning. Sometimes I feel guilty because this is my son’s life: we live on the bus, we live in hotel rooms, and sometimes we’re in the middle of nowhere and it’s not so nice. It’s not that glamorous. We have a nanny to help out, especially when we’re on the road. But I feel guilty having someone else take care of him at home while I’m running to the grocery store.”
Three years later, Underwood began Instagram Shares further honest insights into her parenting journey, admitting she can be “hard” on herself. A gym selfie from 2019 was captioned: “I walk into the gym and can’t run as fast or as far. I can’t lift the weights or do as many reps as I could a year ago. I just want to feel like myself again…and let my body feel the way I know it will.”
After realizing she needed to go easy on herself, Underwood concluded at the time: “I’m going to take it day by day and smile at the girl in the mirror and work out because I love this body and everything it does and will continue to do it.”
