ByteDance has put on hold plans to launch a new AI video system globally, according to report in Information.
The Chinese company, which is best known as TikTok’s parent company (and is now a minority shareholder its change in the US), launched Seedance 2.0 in China back in February. Short films produced by the brand, including a video of Tom Cruise fighting Brad Pitt, soon went viral and was heavily criticized by Hollywood.
When a successful artist announced that the video meant, “It’s done for us,” the studios quickly sent letters to ByteDance, with Disney’s lawyers accusing the company of “infringement-and-infringement of Disney’s IP.” ByteDance responded with promising to introduce a strong defense system of intelligence.
The company had planned to make Seedance 2.0 available globally by mid-March, The Information reported, but is delaying those plans as its engineers and lawyers work to avoid further legal challenges.
ByteDance did not immediately respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment.
