Buffy the Vampire Cast Reacts to Nicholas Brandon’s Death

The actor’s family announced in a statement US Weekly Friday, March 20, Brendon “died of natural causes in his sleep.”

“We are saddened to share the passing of our brother and son Nicholas Brendon. He passed away in his sleep of natural causes,” the statement read. “Most people know Nicky for his work as an actor and the characters he created over the years. In recent years, Nicky discovered his passion for painting and art. Nicky loved sharing his passionate talent with his family, friends and fans.”

The family described Brendon as “passionate, sensitive, and with a never-ending creative drive,” adding, “Those who truly knew him understood that his art was one of the purest reflections of who he was.”

“It’s no secret that Nicholas has struggled in the past,” the family noted, adding that Brendon “was receiving medication and therapy to manage his diagnosis and was optimistic about the future at the time of his death.”

Brendon shared in 2023 he had a heart attack and was diagnosed with congenital heart disease and cauda equina syndrome. The actor underwent several spinal surgeries before his death.

The statement concluded by thanking everyone for their support following Brendon’s death. “Our family asks that you respect his privacy during this time as we grieve his passing and celebrate the life of a man of passion, imagination and heart.”

Brandon is best known for playing Xander Harris on Buffy from 1997 to 2003.

In a 2015 interview KLZ activitiesBrendan reflects on his magical experience with Buffy.

“The first season was like, ‘Wow, what’s going on?’ It was really, really cute,” Brendon said.

He continued, “It helps people when they’re at their lowest, which is great because we’ve all been there. I feel honored to be able to help cheer them up. And give them hope. Because life can be hard sometimes.”

“You have people to work with and then people to share time with, and Nick is the latter,” Boreanaz via Instagram. “There are moments that leave a small mark on the paper, a laugh between takes, a look that says we understand, a quiet understanding of showing up and working together. But these are lasting. He carries something real, not perfect, not polished, just real.”

He continued, “In this industry, that’s more important than most things. We don’t always get to choose how long someone stays in the story, just that they’re here. And he… relax, man. Some people leave a mark without even trying.”

Carpenter also expressed his condolences to Brendon’s family and friends who “were with him to the very end,” adding, “May he rest in peace now.”
