Spears was pulled over On March 4, the California Highway Patrol Ventura Communications Center received a report that a black BMW was traveling at high speed and erratically on Highway 101. The singer was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail after authorities claimed she showed signs of impairment. The pop star was released three hours later.
Chemical testing is ongoing and the incident remains under investigation at press time. Spears’ court date is currently scheduled for Monday, May 4.
Spears’ rep told reporters: “This was an unfortunate incident and completely inexcusable.” us weekly in a statement following the arrest. “Britney will take the right steps and comply with the law in the hope that this can be the first step in long overdue change in Britney’s life. Hopefully she will get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
The rep added that Spears plans to spend time with her sons, Preston, 20, and Jaden, 19, whom she shares with her ex-husband Kevin Federlineafter her arrest.
