I felt pressure to respect the actor in front of me because I wanted to respect Andrew as much as I could,” Amundsen recalled. “I even made certain visual choices in terms of my hairstyle and certain lifestyle choices (like Sean) that I wanted to keep.”
Amundsen wanted to pay homage to Terrasciano Play this role.
“I really wanted to stay as close as possible to Sean, and I did that out of respect for the character that everyone loves and the character that Andrew created,” he continued. “When I booked the show, it all happened very quickly. Within about a week, I got into it very quickly. I binge-watched as much as I could, and I found it more helpful to watch the later seasons. I wanted to understand who Sean was toward the end of the show. I really wanted to understand his character as an adult and his relationship with Danny.”

“I wanted to be as respectful as possible to Andrew’s portrayal of Sean, but also add a few things to my own version. Showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis were very good at giving me a lot of freedom to explore the new dynamic with Downey,” he shared. Advertisement
Amundsen concluded: “We’re really just exploring what would have been. Of course, it’s my version of it, but at the same time we’ve never seen this relationship between Sean and his father before. He’s stepping into this completely new position because, from what I understand, exploring Sean becoming a police officer is not something that’s on the table.”
