BBC reports on demolition of UN compound in East Jerusalem

Israeli demolition teams have begun demolishing the headquarters of the United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in occupied East Jerusalem.

Israel says it owns the land on which the compound is located and accuses UNRWA of being infiltrated by Hamas.

UNRWA said its premises are protected by international conventions, and while it acknowledged that nine UNRWA staff may have been involved in the Hamas-led attack on October 7, it said Israel had not proven that an attack was more widespread than that.

The BBC’s John Sudworth reports from this site.
