Barry Manilow He provided an update as he recovers from lung cancer surgery.
Manilow, 82, wrote in a statement on Friday, February 20: “(I) have just returned home from a visit to the surgeon general, which was a very frustrating visit.” Instagram. “I told him I use the treadmill three times a day (which I already do) but I still can’t sing more than three songs in a row before I have to stop.”
While Manilow had hoped to “be able to perform arena shows within a few weeks,” his doctors advised against it.
“He shook his head. He looked at me and then he looked at the floor,” Manilow recalled. “He said, ‘Barry, you’re not ready to do a 90-minute show. Your lungs aren’t ready. You’re in great shape considering everything you’ve been through, but your body isn’t ready. You shouldn’t be on your first stage show. You’re not going to make it.”
Manilow announced in December 2025 diagnosed with lung cancer And underwent surgery to remove the “cancer spot” on his left lung. He subsequently postponed a Las Vegas residency and recent tour in order to recover.
“Deep down, I want to go back. But, my body knows what my heart doesn’t want to admit: I’m not ready,” he noted on Friday, revealing that he was rescheduling the “first batch” of arena concerts originally scheduled for February 27 to March 17.
Manilow continued, “He said I would probably do a Vegas show at the end of March and a second batch of arena shows starting in April. I’m very, very sorry that I have to reschedule some of those first wave of arena shows again.”
The musician further emphasized, “When (he) comes back, (he) will come back.”
“In the meantime, thank you all again for your wonderful messages and calls of support,” Manilow concluded. “The doctor said my body has been through hell and needs time to heal. So, I’m going back to heal.”
Manilow wrote in the statement “all his love and gratitude.”
The “Copacabana” singer revealed earlier this month His lung cancer surgery was successful.
“I wanted to share an update with you all. I am doing well and recovering well from surgery,” he wrote in a statement on February 4. “I’ve been working out and spending some time in the studio, which has been great.”
Manilow was originally diagnosed with cancer After battling bronchitis late last year.
“As many of you know, I recently experienced six weeks of bronchitis and then a five-week relapse,” he wrote on Instagram in December 2025. “Even though I was over bronchitis and back on stage at Westgate Las Vegas, my wonderful doctor ordered an MRI to make sure everything was okay.”
He added at the time, “The MRI found a cancerous spot on my left lung that needed to be removed. Finding it so early was pure luck (and a great doctor). It’s great news. The doctors don’t believe it has spread and I’m doing tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and i love lucy Replay. “
Revealing that his cancer was diagnosed at an early stage, Manilow said he felt “fine” and had “no symptoms.” In 2020, he battled throat cancer.
