Authorities are expanding their search scope Savannah Guthrie‘s mother, Nancy Guthrieafter revealing that law enforcement was investigating new leads.
“Many of you observed active activity at the Guthrie residence over the weekend. That activity will continue tonight into tomorrow as part of the ongoing investigative process, including an expanded search and following new leads,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced via social media on Monday, February 9. “This is all part of the investigative process as the search for Nancy expands and new leads come to light.”
Details of the “new lead” were not released publicly “in order to maintain the integrity of the criminal investigation.”
Authorities also said the FBI would handle “all aspects related to any ransom letters or communications involving the Guthrie family.”
Savannah Guthrie has shared a new video statement pleading for the safe return of missing mom Nancy Guthrie, with less than four hours left before the latest ransom deadline. “As we head into another nightmare week, I just wanted to stop by and share some thoughts,” Savannah, 54, said in a video shared on Instagram on Monday.

“The FBI is not aware of any ongoing connection between the Guthrie family and the alleged kidnappers, and we have no suspects or persons of interest identified in connection with this case at this time,” the statement read.
Earlier this month, Nancy Report missingShe was last seen the night before in Tucson, Arizona, with her family by her side. One of Nancy’s friends noticed she was not attending Sunday church services and notified one of Nancy’s children, who checked her home before contacting police. Law enforcement officials believe Nancy was removed from the home because the elderly woman had mobility issues that made it difficult for her to leave alone. Nancy also takes daily medication, and missing a dose could be fatal.
Tucson ABC affiliate KGUN9 reported that multiple alleged ransom letters were sent to various media organizations during the time Nancy was missing. One of the notes demanded $6 million in Bitcoin in exchange for her safe return, and a man named Derrick Callella was arrested for sending false ransom notes to the Guthrie family.

Amid the alleged ransom note, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a statement on Friday, February 6, that “the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been made aware of new information regarding Nancy Guthrie.” Nanos added that investigators were “examining the veracity” of the information.
Earlier on Monday, Savannah, 54, shared a video ahead of the 5pm (MST) deadline for the alleged ransom note. The Today host thanked her followers for their prayers and asked them to help her bring her mom home.
“We need your help. Law enforcement is working around the clock to try to bring her home, to try to find her. She was taken from us and we don’t know where and we need your help,” Savannah said in the video. “So, I’m just here to ask you, not just for your prayers, but wherever you are, even if you’re far away from Tucson, if you see anything, hear anything, if anything seems strange to you, please report it to law enforcement.”
