Artemis 2 crew sees far side of moon for first time

The crew of NASA’s Artemis 2 mission have described their first view of the far side of the moon.

NASA astronauts Reed Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen have entered the third day of the mission of the Orion spacecraft that will carry them around the far side of the moon and back to Earth.

“Something about you feels like this is not the moon I’m used to seeing,” Koch said.

Astronauts have shared a photo they took of the Moon’s Eastern Basin, which NASA says marks “the first time humans have seen the entire basin with the naked eye.”

As of 23:00 BST on Saturday, NASA’s online dashboard showed the Artemis 2 spacecraft was more than 180,000 miles (289,681 kilometers) from Earth.
