Police in California are investigating the death of a young Arizona mother who was attacked by a dog while protecting her 5-year-old son. US Weekly Already learned.
Emily Panuco On February 27, an attack occurred at her mother’s home in Big River, California, resulting in multiple serious injuries. She is only 26 years old.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that Panuco was bitten, which ultimately proved fatal.
Panuco was visiting some new puppies at her mother’s residence in California. Authorities said Panuco’s mother was not home at the time of the attack.
The boy got too close to the puppy, causing three adult dogs – including the puppy’s mother – to attack the child.
Police said Panuco stood between her son, Jesse, and the dog to protect him. She was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to investigators. Her son suffered two serious bites during the incident and was taken to hospital for treatment. The three dogs involved in the attack were euthanized by animal control, the Sheriff’s Office said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
A New Jersey father found his two young sons “unconscious” after coming home from get off work and called 911 to claim “his wife had done something to them,” prosecutors said. Panuco’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign for her husband and children, including 7-month-old daughter Rosmé.
“The family is devastated by the shock and distress of this incident and they need the support of the community,” Read the GoFundMe. “Funds raised will go directly toward covering Emily’s funeral costs, providing daily necessities like food, and ensuring Rich and his children have access to treatment and resources to help them grieve and heal.”
The statement continued: “Emily was a devoted mother who touched the lives of many children and families working at the Crete Library. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did and her absence leaves a huge void.”
The fundraiser asks people to “keep Rich, his children, and their entire family in your prayers and help them through this heartbreaking time. Your generosity will help Rich mourn the loss of his wonderful wife and provide his children with the necessities they need. Every donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference as this family begins to rebuild their lives.”
As of press time, the fundraiser has received more than $36,000 in donations.
It’s unclear whether criminal charges are being considered in connection with the fatal incident. us The Sheriff’s Office was contacted for comment but had not heard back as of press time.
