Apple Music to add Transparency Tags to distinguish AI music, report says

Apple Music is changing the way record labels and distributors can tag AI or AI-generated content when they upload it to the platform.

According to Music Business WorldwideApple sent a letter to industry partners on Wednesday to explain how it will release a new set of metadata to promote transparency around how AI is used in music.

Metadata usually refers to fields such as song title, album title, genre, artist name, and more that help keep files organized. Now Apple Music will add the ability to include metadata that distributors can use to mark when AI products are involved in certain aspects of music. These tags allow distributors to distinguish between music artwork, music (songs), lyrics (songs), or music videos.

This seems to be what Apple Music users like – a Reddit user wrote a representation of the same concept of a thing days ago. But the problem with this type of opt-in is that it’s up to the publisher or distributor to manually choose to use AI. Spotify is taking a similar approach.

Some music-streaming platforms like Deezer they are trying to show what they have in-house AI recognition tools, but it is difficult to make these systems that are very accurate.
