Anna Camp In the midst of her traditional wife days, a new murder mystery is unfolding Elsbeth.

“When an ambitious filmmaker is killed in a suspicious cleaning accident, Elsbeth focuses on the subject of her final documentary: a ‘traditional wife’ whose made-from-scratch lifestyle contains a deadly ingredient,” the official synopsis reads.
ElsbethPremiering in 2024, the title character originally appeared in good wife and good fightt. The first two seasons showed Elsbeth becoming a de facto detective, helping the NYPD investigate cases. Preston stars side by side Wendell Pierce and Kara Patterson.
Patterson, who plays Kaya, surprised fans when season two ended. left the show as a series regular.
“It’s been in development since season two,” Preston exclusively said. us May 2025. “We wanted to honor her and elevate her to a detective. So when that happened with the character, I was very excited. But for us, it wasn’t that exciting because we love Kara. I love Kara, and I obviously love playing with her.”

Preston promised this isn’t the last fans will see of Kaya, adding, “She’s still in the show — just in a different capacity. It’s nice because it adds some conflict and adds something for Elsbeth to deal with. It’s going to deepen my character.”

“It’s a real testament to the writers that Elsbeth had to deal with this situation where the person she really relied on wasn’t around, that they did it in such a progressive and beautiful way,” Preston told us. “The good thing about Elsbeth is that (she) is very positive and has never met a stranger.”

The actress didn’t rule out potential “growing pains” as Elsbeth adjusts to going solo in season three, saying, “The writers have started introducing other uniformed officers that Elsbeth really relies on to go into crime scenes. The way our show is structured, not every case has the same detective as Elsbeth.”
Preston continued: “So she gets to work with or alongside different perspectives and different people in the pursuit of justice, which always gives her a little bit of fresh air.”
Recently, Preston opened about how to perform able to expand for a third season.

“It suddenly felt like, ‘Oh, right. There are a lot of people in the NYPD, and it’s not just this small group of people.'” It made the show feel bigger in some ways,” she told Us in February. “I wasn’t really sure how we were going to do that without looking like we were trying to replace Kara — but we did it, and we still got Kara back.
