Amazon is beefing up its smart ring bells with new features, including new fire alarms, an app store, and new sensor rings.
The company said the new Ring Sensors can detect movement, openings, broken glass, and smoke, and can monitor carbon monoxide levels, leaks, temperature changes, and air quality. They allow you to control lighting and appliances connected to your smart home network.
Amazon is also adding a new shopping center to the Ring app to allow users to use its cameras with other apps. The app store is only available in the US, and users will be able to check out more apps in the coming weeks. Although the company did not specify what kind of programs the store would have, it said that the programs will focus on small businesses and everyday needs at home.
And as fires continue to grow in drought-stricken areas, the company has joined forces fire monitoring program, Watch Dutyto display real-time updates and early alerts in the Ring app’s Neighbors section. Users can also share the latest updates using their ring cameras in this section.
Of course, the new devices that are being installed support the Amazon Sidewalk feature that shares the network, which creates a network between the company’s Echo and Ring devices by sharing a small part of your bandwidth, making the devices work even if they are not connected to your Wi-Fi router.
Amazon is also adding a new AI feature to the Ring’s cameras that study the daily behavior of the property and notify users if something unusual is happening. Dubbed “AI Unusual Event Alerts,” the company said the feature enables the Ring camera to display specific alerts when it detects a person, based on location, activity and clothing.
For people who subscribe to Amazon’s Virtual Security Guard services, these warnings may trigger intervention. In the past month, the company has released products that use video recognition enable Alexa responses I am sending you personal information based on a database of 50 faces.
