Her legacy will continue through the work she began and the hearts she touched.”

Beauty 2 The Streetz asked for support for Raines’ loved ones, adding: “We humbly ask for your prayers for Ms. Shirley’s family, loved ones and the Beauty 2 The Streetz family during this extremely difficult time. Further information will be shared as it becomes available.”
Raines’ twin sister Shelia has shared more insight into the events leading up to her death, telling PEOPLE on Wednesday that Raines’ youngest daughter called her mother multiple times a day earlier but received no response. Raines’ daughter then drove home but was unable to get inside.

Before her death, Raines provided rehabilitation services to women in the community to help change perceptions of homelessness.
“One of the things I wanted to do was change the face of homelessness, and I thought I was going to do that through hair and all these things,” she told People 2020. “But I quickly understood that we needed to change our definition of ‘homeless.’ Just because they didn’t have a home, it didn’t mean they didn’t have love.
