Months after he told police his wife fell and died, police in Columbus, Ohio, arrested her 39-year-old husband and charged him this week with her murder.

Columbus police confirmed they were called to the couple’s home around 3:20 a.m. that day and arrived a short time later, where they found an injured Mikayla.
Mikayla was then taken to OhioHealth Pickerington Hospital in Pickerington, where doctors spent several days trying to save her life. But they failed to do so, and she was pronounced dead on September 14, according to columbus telegram.
Homicide detectives spoke with Austin Medek a short time later, who said he wasn’t sure what happened to Mikayla. He suggested she might have fallen somehow and told investigators he found her in a coma, columbus telegram reported.
But as time passed, an autopsy proved that Mikayla’s injuries were not consistent with a heavy fall. columbus telegram Report.
In fact, authorities determined that Mikayla’s injuries were more consistent with an aggravated assault. Most of the injuries she sustained were to the head, and medical examiners ultimately labeled her death a homicide.
According to police, Mikaela was allegedly assaulted by Austin during a violent domestic violence incident, but they did not provide further details.
Medek was arrested by the Columbus Police SWAT team on Monday, Dec. 15. columbus telegram Report. The father and alleged killer remain in custody without fixed bail.
On the same day Mikayla passed away, Austin decided to share the news of Mikayla’s passing in an awkwardly worded social media post on Facebook.
“This will be the hardest position I’ve ever had,” it began. “As most of you have heard, my beautiful wife, my rock and the mother of our 3 precious children, passed away on Thursday, September 11th at 1pm.”
The relevant Facebook post was reviewed by us weekly.
The letter continued: “Micaela Medek was not an easy person to convince to be my girlfriend, and in fact it took her a long time to overcome her distrust of men. But with time and a lot of patience, she finally agreed to ‘settle down.'” Our relationship with each other continues to improve. Eventually growing into our faith and more.
“I don’t have enough space to tell you how beautiful my Kayla is,” the post concluded. “Just knowing that she is my complete world and I am lost without her. I will continue to make Jesus a priority for my children and myself to make sure we make it back to heaven to be reunited with her.”
Medek was not required to enter a plea to the charges. Attempts to reach his attorney for comment Friday were unsuccessful.
