NHS England’s technology service provider confirms the data breach


DXS International, a UK-based company that provides medical services to England’s National Health Service (NHS), disclosed the cyberattack in a statement on Thursday.

In the reservation and the London Stock Exchange, the company said it had experienced a “security incident that affected its office servers,” which was discovered on December 14. The company said it “immediately” had a breach involving the NHS, and hired a cyber security firm to investigate “the nature and scope of the incident.”

“There was minimal impact on the company’s operations and the company’s frontline medical support was unaffected and operational,” read the statement.

Currently, the exact nature of the breach is unknown, and whether the patient’s medical information was stolen.

However, earlier this week, a ransom group called DevMan took credit for breaking the law. In a post on its black page, which TechCrunch saw, the hackers wrote to the company on December 14 and said they stole 300 gigabytes of the company’s data.

DXS said it had also informed law enforcement and regulators, including the UK’s data protection authority, the Information Commissioner’s Office, or ICO, about the cyberattack.

NHS England spokeswoman Katie Baldwin told TechCrunch that the health service “is not aware of any patient care involved.”

Representatives from DXS and ICO did not immediately respond to a list of questions sent by TechCrunch.
