Fintech start-up Pep Mesa has shut down its homeowner card, which awarded points to client builders for paying their bills.
Message on Wesa Website states that as of December 12, “All Mesa accounts have been closed,” adding, “all credit card purchases have been made and you will no longer be able to purchase or earn Mesa points.”
A Mesa faq of the closure said it was “a business decision to close the MESA Hopaty Card program completely.” Techcrnch has reached out to Mesa to explain the upcoming additions.
Introduction they just launched last yearin November 2024, with $ 9.2 million in fees ($ 7.2 million in fees and $ 2 million in debt). It offered two features – a home loan with 1% cash back, and a credit card with rewards including cash, travel, and mortgage repayments.
At the time, CEO Kelley Halpin told Tech that the new start “is due to the movement of restaurant cards to re-engage with homeowners.”
In theory, you could earn points for home use using any rewards credit card, but Mesa said it made its program more compatible with homeownership.
“So it’s not just travel rewards and dining expenses; it’s rewards you on gas, your merchandise, your hoa, your property and your credit,” Halpin said.
