Unfortunately, the highly anticipated UFC 323 title fight lasted less than 30 seconds.
Alexander Pantoja – He attempted to defend his championship belt on Saturday, December 6 in Las Vegas – losing to Joshua Fan After suffering a serious injury, he immediately withdrew from the game.
Just 26 seconds into the game, Pantoja kicked him, but it hit his arm at an odd angle, causing his elbow to twist in the wrong direction.
The sickening injury knocked Pantogia out of the fight, and Fantogia won by TKO and was awarded the title by default.
After the game, Pantoja took to Instagram to update fans on his injury, sharing his disappointment while looking forward to his return – whenever that may be.
“This is what happened, the accident,” Brazilian fighter says Via Instagram Video. “When I went to the UFC today, I thought I was in the best shape of my life. When I saw Joshua Van on the other side of the octagon, I believed I could beat him in the first round. That’s what I tried to do. … I feel comfortable in the octagon. That’s my octagon, that’s my belt. That’s everything I’ve done in my life to get to that moment.

Getty ImagesHe continued, “Joshua Van, that’s his destiny to win this belt tonight. I couldn’t win this belt today because of an injury… I’m going to work very hard. I’ve worked out very hard my whole life and I’m going to work again and I’m going to get my belt again.”
Pantoja said he would fly back to Brazil on Sunday to begin his recovery and “start pursuing my dream again” on Monday.
“We appreciate all the information,” he said. “Everybody knows myself. Everybody knows I’m a very well-respected person. I respect my family first. I would never say a bad word about anybody. I’m just going to work very hard and bring that belt back home to me.”
Injury details have not been released, but UFC CEO Dana White Pantoja suffered a dislocated shoulder, although video of the incident showed Pantoja’s elbow turning the wrong way.
“They put his shoulder back in,” White said. “I thought it was the elbow. No, not the elbow, it was his shoulder and they popped it backstage. Now they have to do an MRI and check the ligaments and see how it goes.”
White said there is no timetable for Pantoja’s return, but he also said he “will need some time.”
Fan said he is already looking forward to a rematch with Pantoja once he recovers.
“It’s been kill or be killed all week. I knew I was going to win this fight, but I certainly didn’t want the fight to end this way,” Pham said. “Once (Pantoja) recovers, I want to get it back. I have a lot of respect for him, he’s one of the greatest players of all time.
He continued, “It doesn’t matter[if he’s next]but I feel like he deserves it. That’s what the UFC wants for me next, but I do want to run back with him, that’s for sure.”
