Lizzo later revealed that she was “suicidal” when she began her weight loss journey in November.
“I started losing weight in the fall of 2023. I was extremely depressed. I had been the subject of a vicious scandal and felt like the world had turned its back on me. I became very suicidal,” she wrote via Substack. “I cut off all contact with everyone I loved.”
She added that she “can’t trust anyone” after the 2023 “scandal,” referring to lawsuits filed against her by three of her former backup dancers for sexual and religious harassment, disability discrimination, creating a hostile work environment and more. Lizzo denied the claims.
“I found that I lost some weight in the process, but not as much as I do now. Because it wasn’t intentional,” she noted. Lizzo also shared that she changed her mindset and started viewing weight loss as a “release” rather than “losing” a pound.
