Malaysian authorities said the search for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 will resume on December 30, more than a decade after the plane disappeared with 239 people on board.
This new search will last for 55 days, It started in March But it was suspended soon after due to bad weather conditions.
“The latest developments underscore (Malaysia’s) commitment to providing relief to families affected by this tragedy,” the Transport Ministry said on Wednesday, according to local media.
In 2014, Boeing 777 flight MH370 disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, triggering the largest search in aviation history.
Exploration company Ocean Infinity is leading the current search on a “no discovery, no charge” basis. Transport Minister Anthony Loke earlier said $70m (£56m) would be available if the wreckage was found.
Previous attempts included a multinational search involving 60 ships and 50 aircraft from 26 countries that ended in 2017; the 2018 Ocean Infinity search ended three months later.
On March 8, 2014, flight MH370 lost contact with the air traffic control center less than an hour after takeoff, and radar showed that it had deviated from its original flight route.
It remains one of the greatest aviation mysteries and continues to haunt the families of those on board. Over the years, many people have Request a new searchnoted their struggle to find closure.
The incident also sparked a series of conspiracy theories, including speculation that the pilot deliberately shot down the plane or that it was hijacked.
An investigation in 2018 found that the plane’s controls were likely deliberately manipulated to cause it to veer off course, but did not reach any conclusion.
Investigators said at the time that “no conclusions can be drawn until the wreckage is found.”
