So you think you can dance finalists Donyell JonesAlso known as Donyelle Dense Wilson, passed away at the age of 46.
The news was announced through her Instagram Her nearly 34,000 followers were notified via a text image on her account on Tuesday, December 2. “At 8:34 this morning, Donyelle Denise Wilson was transformed. She was a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend. She was a warrior who fought to beat cancer every day. Her spirit never dimmed. Her heart never hardened. Even in the midst of a storm, she never lost her smile. GIWMA,” the post read.
Jones is a hip-hop and jazz dancer who appears on the second season of the reality dance series Cytochromewhich aired in 2006, she finished in third place Benji Schwimmer won the season and Travis Wall Won second place.
Her death came nearly a decade after she was diagnosed with stage 3C breast cancer, which later evolved into stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, according to a report people.
Just a week before the announcement on Instagram, fans shared a video of Jones sitting in a chair with tubes in her nostrils. “Hi everyone, this is Donyel Dennis. Now I have begun to get my affairs in order. As most of you know, at this time I am in hospice and I have done everything possible to prolong my time in this dimension. At this time, I have surrendered to the will of God,” she said.
The video also details that her liver has “stopped functioning” and that she remains open to a “miraculous cure.”
She laughed and told fans, “I’m bold and I have to believe you guys can do it, but I’m also knowledgeable enough to know I’ve been given ten years of miracles. What more could I ask for?” Jones captioned the heartbreaking video, “Legacy Statement.”
Earlier Instagram posts captured her fighting spirit, including this one from Oct. 18 videophotographed at the 2024 Celebrity Gala in Beverly Hills, California, details how she landed the role Janet Jackson. “All the dancers in the room, you know what it’s like, after weeks or months of not dancing, imagine not dancing for a year…on top of that, cancer treatment,” she said during a speech at the event. “I got the bright idea to audition for Janet Jackson. I booked the job. It was three months after chemo.”
singer-songwriter Shanice Solved Jones’ death through her Instagram account shortly after the announcement was made. “My heart is completely broken. My cousin @donyelledenise8 fought stage 4 breast cancer for 10 years. She passed away this morning. She was the strongest person on the planet. She suffered in her last moments and as much as I wish she was here, I’m so glad she’s no longer in pain. Love you cousin. RIP,” she wrote.
Jones’ fans and past collaborators also shared touching tributes in the comments section of the announcement. One wrote: “Fly higher, superstar. You are a gift. So grateful that I get to dance next to you and feel that incredible power.”
