On Monday, November 24, Slovenian police were notified of “a car fire in the parking lot of a casino near the border” in Sentili.
“This is the 31-year-old man’s car,” police said at the time. “He was found near the burning vehicle and arrested by Slovenian police. Extradition to Austria has been requested.”
More news was released on Thursday, November 29, when the Austrian National Police Confirmed Two male relatives of the suspect are detained at the Graz-Jacomini Correctional Facility in Austria for the risk of perverting the course of justice. Local media later identified the two other family members as the suspect’s brother and stepfather.
“Two other men from the suspect’s family were arrested in Austria. The detainees have been taken into police custody and are being questioned,” police said in a statement.
At the time, Austrian police conducted a forensic examination of the ex-boyfriend’s car and found no clues to suspected foul play.
Styrian police said: “The investigation is ongoing in both Slovenia and Austria, and there is close cooperation between the authorities in both countries.”
Austrian police also warned on Thursday: “Rumors are circulating in various media and online platforms that a missing woman has been found in Slovenia. Several media inquiries have mentioned this rumor. Styrian police are unable to confirm this rumor.”

Pieper’s body was eventually found in a Serbian forest. The suspect himself was extradited to Austria on Friday, November 29, for questioning, but the motive has not yet been determined.
Representatives of the Austrian and Slovenian police and the Graz prosecutor’s office are expected to hold a joint press conference on Sunday, November 30, to provide an update on the case.
