Shooting at California children’s birthday party leaves four dead

A mass shooting at a child’s birthday party in California left at least four people dead.

Ten other people were injured in a shooting at a restaurant in the northern city of Stockton on Saturday night.

A suspect remains at large and police said they believe the shooting may have been “targeted.”

Local police said the victims included adults and children. The condition of the injured has not yet been confirmed.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting occurred shortly before 18:00 local time (02:00 GMT Sunday), with spokesperson Heather Brent calling the incident “unfathomable”.

A statement continued: “This is a very active and ongoing investigation and information remains limited.

“Early indications suggest this may have been a targeted incident and investigators are exploring all possibilities.

Stockton Deputy Mayor Jason Lee wrote on social media: “I was shocked and outraged to learn of a mass shooting at a child’s birthday party.

“A birthday party should never be a place where families fear for their lives.”
