Despite peaceful operation, drones attack Kyiv residential areas

Officials in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev said Russian drone and missile strikes killed at least one person and injured seven others.

Residential buildings in several areas were hit early Saturday morning, with loud explosions heard across the city.

Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a 13-year-old child was among the injured and four people were taken to hospital.

Ukrainian officials said a similar attack in Kiev earlier this week killed seven people. The latest bombing comes as Ukrainian negotiators prepare for talks with U.S. officials this weekend on a revised U.S. peace plan.

Teymur Tkachenko, the head of Kiev’s military authorities, confirmed that Saturday’s attack hit “multiple targets on the outskirts of the capital.”

“Enemy drones appeared over the city and air defense units responded,” he wrote on Telegram.

Currently, one person has died and seven others have been injured in Kiev, including a child. “

Tkachenko confirmed that rescuers found the body of a man in the Sviatoshinsky district in the west of the city.

Two women were among the injured in the town of Brovari, east of Kiev, where the governor said “missiles and drones” struck residential areas.

Klitschko said the strike caused a fire on the lower floors of a high-rise apartment building west of the city center, while another fire in the central district had been brought under control.

Earlier this week, deadly attacks overnight in Russia and Ukraine caused a fire in a Kiev apartment building and killed seven people, with three deaths reported in Russia’s Rostov region.

Saturday’s attack came as President Donald Trump urged both sides to accept a draft peace plan that initially tilted heavily toward Moscow’s demands. The agreement was later revised during talks in Geneva between Ukrainian and U.S. negotiators.

On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin doubled down on his core demands for an end to the war, saying Russia would only stop its offensive if Ukrainian troops withdraw from territory claimed by Moscow.

Putin also confirmed that a U.S. delegation, including special envoy Steve Witkov, is expected to arrive in Moscow in the first half of next week to discuss a draft peace plan at the heart of the negotiations.

In a video address on Thursday night, Zelensky said the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations would meet to “translate the points we gained in Geneva into a form that will put us on the path to peace and security guarantees.”
