Moment researchers discovered rare flower after 13 years of search

A team of British and Indonesian scientists discovered the rare Hasel Rafflesia flower in the rainforest of West Sumatra.

Indonesian botanist Septian Andriki and associate curator of the Oxford University Botanic Gardens Chris Thorogood spent nearly a day trudging through Indonesia’s dense rainforest in search of this rare flora that had not been seen in the wild in more than a decade.

Mr Andrich burst into tears after hearing the news, telling the BBC he had been “waiting for 13 years”.
