Emily Blunt Feeling a little uncomfortable on the set of a biographical sports drama grinder.
Blunt, 42, revealed that one scene was filmed at the expo with her co-stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson causing her to vomit multiple times.
“I was so sick,” the actress recalled of riding the Gravitron ride in a recent episode. entertainment weeklyof “The Winners” Podcast. “When I got home, I literally threw up. It was so bad.”
Graviton was turned upside down, something Johnson’s character didn’t quite like, but Blunt decided to fully commit to it. Johnson, 53, who has a long-standing friendship with Blount, offered his support, adding, “She’s a trooper. She rode that thing twice.”
‘Smashing Machine’ tells the story of an ex mixed martial arts fighter Mark Cole (Johnson), whose battle with drug addiction led to the breakdown of his marriage to Dawn Staples (Blunt).
“Dawn is someone who’s always chasing the wild side, part of the dangerous nature of the relationship, or the obsession with drama, wildness, freedom,” Blunt said of playing Kerr’s wife. “I think Mark was probably always trying to find solace in the madness because his life was always in danger, whether it was in the ring or down the rabbit hole of his own addiction.”
Blunt continued, “So, the trip to the gravity field is like total free flight for her, and you see her so happy. That was a huge moment for me, for this character who’s been pretty tortured for most of the movie, that she’s happy, that she’s alive, and that she’s away from him. So it’s a really big moment that he’s able to tap into that in her.”

To accurately portray Cole, Johnson experienced a dramatic transformation The prosthesis requires him to sit in the makeup chair for three to four hours a day. Blunt remembers what it was like to see Johnson’s character on set for the first time.
“Everyone got really quiet, which I’m sure must have been very disturbing for the DJ who walked in. Everyone just stared. I almost cried because it was such an immersive experience, not just physical immersion,” she said. “What was more interesting and fascinating to me was the shift in energy. I considered myself a person who knew the DJ very well, and he just disappeared – like completely disappeared.”
Blunt said she felt Johnson felt a sense of “relief” once he got into character.
“It really struck me that he seemed so calm as Mark,” Blount explained. “I’ve watched him become this huge movie star over the years and it’s not for the faint of heart, it’s actually not easy – you have to be born with the kind of charisma that he has and the ability to pull the audience into him, even in a fast and Furious. But it’s amazing to see that we don’t have to be invincible or a rock, any of those qualities don’t actually align with who we are as humans. “
Overall, Blunt felt that Smashing Machine was a “cathartic experience” for her and her costars, adding, “We knew it would be very revealing and you learn a lot about yourself and the people you’re working with.”
