BBC at the scene of ‘intense’ fire

The 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) of the United Nations Climate Change Conference was evacuated due to a fire in the venue in Belém, Brazil.

BBC reporters, including climate editor Justin Rowlatt, saw flames and smoke coming from the pavilion area before being rushed outside.

The United Nations said the fire was extinguished six minutes later and 13 people were treated for smoke inhalation. It’s unclear what caused the fire.
