SpaceX is heading for what is expected to be its largest IPO next month, and it has now received a major boost from the Trump administration.

Friday, US Space Force he announced is giving SpaceX $4.16 billion as part of a contract to develop satellites that will be part of the defense and air defense system that President Trump calls the “Golden Dome.”

The announcement follows a separate contract that Space Force awarded to Elon Musk’s company earlier this week worth $2.29 billion. The deal involves SpaceX developing a communications network in low Earth orbit.

The contracts reinforce a disclosure detailed in SpaceX’s IPO filing announced last week: the company is heavily dependent on government contracts. One-fifth of SpaceX’s funding in 2025 came from the public sector.

Musk poured nearly $300 million into Trump’s campaign, and remains close to the president. But SpaceX has also dominated the launch market over the past decade; it’s no wonder the federal government turns to SpaceX for contracts like this. However, the company warned investors in its IPO filings that “its business and government agencies may change policies, requirements, regulations, obligations, etc.
money levels.”
