influencer Jeff Nippard He opened up about his mental health struggles after his fiancée died, Stephanie Buttermore.
“I’ve been living in a friend’s basement for the past few weeks, where he has a barbell and dumbbells, so I’ve been getting back to my roots again with some basic strength training. Part of me loves a minimal setup like this because the constraints force me to be creative,” Nippard via Instagram on Sunday, May 24, with a video of his workout. “Exercising during grief was one of the things I really didn’t want to do, but I was so glad I did it once it was done.”
He continued, “My depression was pretty bad, so I lost a lot of energy and for the first time in memory I didn’t really have the desire to work out. That said, I did find that if I said to myself, ‘Go in and lift the bar up and down 10 times, that’s better than doing nothing’… at least I started to move. After that, if I still wanted to stop, I would. If it felt good, I would keep going. I usually finished the workout anyway because it usually feels better once it starts.”
Nippard said he also “took some time away from social media and YouTube.”
“I feel like I need a break so thank you for your understanding,” he wrote. “I really appreciate all the support during this time and hope you are all well🙏🏻.”
News broke in March Buttermore is dead.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Jeff’s fiancée and partner of 10 years, Stephanie,” the Nippard team said in a statement on Instagram at the time. “As many of you know, Stephanie meant the world to Jeff.”
The statement continued: “She will be remembered for her warmth and compassion, love for her family, and her doctoral research into ovarian cancer. We kindly ask for your privacy as we work through this tragic loss. Thank you for your understanding and support during this difficult time.”
One month later, Nippard breaks his silence Following Buttermore’s death, he shared the time he spent with his late fiancée’s “family and closest friends, celebrating her life and sharing memories of each other.”
“When I think of Stephanie, I am constantly reminded of how loving and kind she was. She truly made the world a better place,” he wrote on Instagram in April. “I’m not sure many of you know this, but during her PhD she studied a protein called RHAMM and found that it could help detect ovarian cancer early. If you want to read a copy of her PhD thesis in my resume, that was one of the first things that made me fall in love with her.”
He continued: “On her YouTube channel, she helps people feel less alone, especially when struggling with food and body image. Her journey has helped so many people be more accepting of themselves, and I love her so much for doing that. She always put family first, and she had an especially strong bond with her mom. We built this backyard garden in her honor (purple was her favorite color), and it means a lot to me.”
Nippard said he had read “a lot” over the past few weeks, noting that “the support has helped us all.”
“Stephanie’s mom loves hearing stories about the changes her daughter has made. We speak almost every day and it’s very difficult, but we are working together,” he concluded. “If you’re a fan of Stephanie, then I’m a fan of yours. I hope she changes your life for the better in some way. She makes my life wonderful and I’m so grateful for the time we spent together ❤️.”
