Shailene Woodley made a rare comment on her friendship with her former co-star Ansel Elgort.

After completing that film, Woodley and Elgort reunited to star in the 2014 film What’s wrong with our planetwho ended up playing love interests Hazel and Gus, respectively.
“When I heard he was auditioning What’s wrong with our planet. I was like, ‘Oh, this is awesome, but obviously it’s never going to happen because he’s my brother divergentlike there’s no world where this would happen…and then he was cast,” she said. “You know, he was the only person on Earth who could play Gus.
Woodley explained that her and Elgort’s real-life connection made their characters’ on-screen chemistry even stronger.
“I think what actually made our relationship in that movie so tender and truly love each other unconditionally (because) Ansel and I really do love each other,” she shared. “It’s rare that you see love without intimacy, and while there is intimacy between Hazel and Gus, at its core it’s just unconditional love. Two people sending each other home. Two people eager to support each other and make the other feel less alone in a chaotic world.”

The film is adapted from the author’s best-selling novel John GreenWoodley and Elgort’s characters have multiple romantic scenes. The “Big Little Lies” actress admitted that filming the intimate moment with Elgort was “awkward.”
“Of course when we had to shoot intimate scenes together, it was awkward because I remember it took a little while for (us) to laugh together,” she said. “I know everything about you, it was so weird we had to take our shirts off.”
