Chelsea Handler Didn’t like some of the jokes during Netflix Kevin Hart’s BBQand program host, Sean Gillisremain undisturbed.
“It’s disgusting,” Handler, 51, said on the Wednesday, May 20 episode. “Funny Getting to Know You” Podcast After being asked to share her thoughts on Gillis Tony HinchcliffeThe joke was featured on a roast show that aired earlier this month.
“I don’t think the jokes are funny,” Handler continued. “Jokes about lynching black people, lynching is not a joke. It’s worse than rape. You’re not joking about rape, are you?”
She added, “You can do it, but don’t make it gross.”
At the May 10 roast, Gillis noted that he was told to be “racist” in his jokes. As Gillis concluded his opening act, he told the audience he had a “good PG short joke” and then introduced the other comedians.
“Kevin was so short, they had to lynch him from a bonsai tree,” Gillis, 38, said. Hart, 46, laughed before standing and shaking hands with Gillis.
“This joke took three weeks to come up with,” Gillis added, to laughter from the crowd. “Look, I understand how serious the word lynching is, but bonsai is fun.”
During Wednesday’s podcast, Handler said Gillis’ joke and others told by Hinchcliffe, 41, made her “sick.” Handler even claimed she received messages from women who dated Gillis telling her “everything we know,” before calling him and Hinchcliffe “racist,” “bigot” and “sexist.” One of Gillis’ exes allegedly told Handler that he considered himself “invisible” and could say whatever he wanted.
Gillis responded to Handler’s comments in a statement hollywood reporter Wednesday.
“This is a big moment for Chelsea. I’m glad she’s taken advantage of it. Good for her. We’re all supporting her,” he said. Anyway, come see me on July 17th at Philadelphia Football Stadium. “
Tony Hinchcliffe was already a polarizing figure in stand-up comedy long before he appeared on Kevin Hart’s Roast Show in May 2026. Meanwhile, Underwood appears on Gillis’ “Matt and Sean’s Secret Podcast” On Wednesday, jokes about roasting the widow were discussed. Gillis “on record” said he called Underwood, 62, to get permission before mentioning her late husband.
“If she says she agrees, she agrees. I’m not okay with that. I think it’s disgusting, too,” Handler continued. “There’s so much gross stuff out there that I knew it was going to be a gross feeling and I could elevate it with no problem. That’s what I’m going to do.”
