Tesla’s Full Self-Driving software is making its way to Europe

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Manager) driver assistance program is now available in Lithuania, the second European country to approve its use, as the company pushes to position itself as an AI and robotics powerhouse and not just a car manufacturer.

Making FSD available in Europe – which began last month when Dutch regulator RDW approved its use – is central to the plans of Tesla and CEO Elon Musk. It’s also financial for Musk, himself $1 trillion payment package it is aligned with hitting several sales goals, including hitting “10 million FSD subscriptions” by 2035.

Tesla has a long way to go before hitting the 10 million mark. The company said during its first quarter earnings in April that it has about 1.3 million FSD paying customers worldwide.

Tesla is FSD (Supervised) it was first introduced in beta in late 2020. The advanced driver support system, which still requires active driver monitoring, has undergone frequent updates since then to remove bugs, and improve reliability and performance. Today, these systems are capable of controlling vehicles, such as steering, changing lanes, and parking. Tesla used to let owners make one-time payments for the program; in January, Musk announced the only way to get the share through a monthly subscription it is currently $99.

The release of the FSD in Europe has not been fast or furious – the system review has delayed the deployment compared to the United States. Today, FSD is available only in the Netherlands, and now Lithuania. The rollout could speed up if the Dutch regulator RDW, which oversaw the initial approval in Europe, wins its bid. EU-wide approval.

Currently, European countries can recognize the Dutch license and allow FSD. And several of them seem to be in line.

Greece’s transport ministry said on Wednesday that an upcoming bill would provide approval for the FSD, Reuters report. Belgium is also expected to approve the use of the FSD, following the same approval process used by the RDW.

Outside of Europe, FSD is available in Australia, Canada, China, Mexico, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the United States.

FSD (Manager) is not the only product that is compatible with Musk’s vision of turning Tesla into a leader in AI and robotics, but it is the only one that is available to many consumers.

FSD Unsupervised, a type of software that controls all vehicles without expecting a human driver to take control, is not available to Tesla owners. They are used in a small fleet of approximately 50 Tesla robotaxis that operate in Austin, Dallas, and Houston.

Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot, at this point, has not yet been manufactured or made available to consumers.
