‘Ask YouTube’ brings AI-powered conversational search to video, adding Gemini Omni to Shorts

Google is a complete overhaul its search, and this does not stop at YouTube. Like the rest of Google, YouTube’s search engine is being infused with AI tools like “Ask YouTube,” which should provide users with more sophisticated search results.

“With Ask YouTube, you can ask the most complex search questions, like asking for advice on how to teach your child to ride a bike, or find reviews of creators of fun bedtime games,” the company said. “You can ask the following questions to further refine your requirements.”

YouTube will create short and long videos and respond.

Premium subscribers in the US on desktop can start using this feature through the YouTube Premium option contributions testing new equipment.

The company also announced that it is adding Gemini Omni, Google’s new AI video model, to the YouTube Shorts Remix and YouTube Create app.

“Integrating with Omni provides a new way for users to create ideas for each other,” YouTube wrote in a press release. “The brand has a deep understanding of what users want to create dynamic and immersive storytelling and complex behind-the-scenes video and audio editing.”

Some companies like it Trim and OpenAI have seen mixed reception in their push to use AI in Shorts. OpenAI though after sunset its public app Sora, where users can upload and share their AI-generated videos. But YouTube seems to be rolling this out in a way that feels a little front and center.

YouTube is also increasing its size a comparison tool for developers aged 18 and over, which should help prevent developers from delving into third-party AI products. If a creator feels they are being misrepresented in an AI video, they can request that the video be removed. As this field continues to grow, it remains to be seen how effective it will be.
