OpenAI implements ChatGPT for your finances, allowing you to connect bank accounts

On Friday, OpenAI launched a new financial tool that previews ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the US, allowing them to connect their accounts and ask questions ranging from analyzing spending to planning for the future.

OpenAI has partnered with the payment integration service Plaid to manage account connections. Users can connect with more than 12,000 financial institutions, including Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One. When users connect these accounts, they will see a dashboard of their performance, income, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.

This update comes one month from OpenAI found the team behind Hiro who started the investmentwhich was supported by companies such as Ribbit, General Catalyst, and Restive, in April. OpenAI said Hiro’s team’s expertise in finance was instrumental in the launch, but did not specify whether the entire feature was developed by them.

OpenAI users can access this tool by selecting “Get Started” in the “Finance” sidebar, or typing “@Finances, connect my accounts” in the ChatGPT conversation. When users do this, the chatbot guides them through connecting accounts through Plaid. The company said it plans to support Intuit in the near future, which could help with analytics such as stock trading for tax purposes or credit card approval opportunities.

According to OpenAI, more than 200 million users already ask financial questions to ChatGPT every month. The company also noted that the new version of GPT-5.5 is strong in conversations and stories, which are important for answering financial questions. The company said it worked with financial experts to develop the model’s benchmark to address financial questions.

With the integration of new financial tools, users can get detailed answers to questions like “I feel like I’ve spent money recently. Has anything changed?” or “Help me make plans to be ready to buy a home in my area in the next 5 years.”

Users can go to Settings > Apps > Finance remove links to other accounts if desired. Upon cancellation, the connected data will be deleted from ChatGPT within 30 days. In addition, Users can also view and delete financial records from the Finance page.

Custom chatbots are designed to answer almost anything, allowing people to ask questions about data-driven topics like health, finance, and personal life. AI companies are realizing this and creating special products for these sectors. All of them OpenAI and Anthropic have introduced health-related tools. Earlier this month, Perplxity launched its own financial research based on its computer agent.

OpenAI said its financial tools will be available on ChatGPT on the web and iOS for Pro users. It also said that, based on feedback from these users, it wants to improve the product before offering it to Plus users.
