Hezbollah support persists in southern Lebanon as ceasefire fails to halt war with Israel

Life seems to be on hold. The main streets are still decorated for Ramadan and almost all the houses appear abandoned. The village was quiet, but not peaceful. Near the mosque, I met two cousins, Fatmeh and Dunya, both in their 80s. A banner hung outside paying tribute to late Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by Israel in 2024. “We saw many wars. But we never left,” Fatmeh said. “Whatever happened, we thought we would rather die at home than leave.”
