Codex is going mobile. A writing tool – introduced by OpenAI about a year ago – is now integrated into the ChatGPT software, allowing users to monitor and control the progress of their development remotely.
The new service allows users to view their Codex location on any device they run. The company announced the changes on Thursday; The update, shown here, is now available for all plans on iOS and Android.
“This is more than just being able to manage a single task or deploy new tasks on your computer,” OpenAI said in a statement. “From your phone, you can use all of your threads, review your releases, approve orders, change colors, or start a new one.”
Last month, OpenAI too gave Codex the ability running backwards in the computer environment – empowering the device to handle different tasks independently. Earlier this month, the company they also started a Chrome extension that allows the agent to work in live browsers.
In February, Anthropic released a similar feature – Remote Control – which allows users to manage the Claude Code project remotely.
The increasing number of releases from OpenAI and Anthropic speaks to the fierce competition between the two whose writing tool can be used the most. For the past year, Anthropic’s Claude Code fame among businesses and professionals alike, although both tools continue to be widely used.
