Ransomware hackers are said to be breaching regulations at Foxconn, a major hardware manufacturer for Apple, Google, and Nvidia.

The electronics manufacturing giant Foxconn, which makes components and parts for Apple, Google, Nvidia, and Sony, among other tech giants, confirmed on Monday that it was affected by a cyberattack that may have affected some of its factories.

In a statement sent to the media, Foxconn said that the sites affected by the cyberattack in North America and that “the affected factories are resuming normal production.”

Ransomware group Nitrogen claimed responsibility for the Foxconn breach in a statement on its dark web page, where the group publicizes the victims of its attempted extortion. In most cases, if the victim does not pay, the hacker will publish the stolen information.

The hackers are said to have stolen more than 11 million files, including the confidential files of Foxconn’s customers, including Apple, Dell, Google, Intel, Nvidia, and others. As evidence, the hackers published several images of what appeared to be schematics, instructions, and bank statements.

Nitrogen is a double takeover redemption team. This means that hackers encrypt files, making them inaccessible to victims, but they also steal them first, allowing them to threaten to release the stolen data. This strategy gives Nitrogen two ways to monetize their offense.

Foxconn did not immediately respond to several questions about the attack.
