With tech companies focusing on AI models, Anthropic is having a great year.
The company will soon lead its biggest competition, as it looks to raise billions of dollars in funding that will test its valuation. about $950 billion (OpenAI was a total of $854 billion in its March cycle), and business customers are increasingly a prefer Claude to ChatGPT. A recent report shows Anthropic it has recently overtaken OpenAI among business customersincreasing its market share from May 2025.
Cat Wu, head of Anthropic products at Claude Code and Cowork, has been instrumental in this success. Since joining the company in August 2024, Wu has helped shepherd Claude through a difficult phase, upgrading it from an information chat to a writing tool and beyond. Wu, who oversees the development of new products, is often joined by Boris Cherny, a senior member of Anthropic’s technical team and producer Claude Code, who guides the pair to be. known as “Batman and Robin” by Anthropic.
Wu sat down with me during the second week of the annual Code and Claude conference in San Francisco, where he discussed how he thinks about the product method, and how he hopes the experience of Claude’s work will change in the future.
These interviews have been edited for length and clarity.
When you look at marketing strategies, how much does it affect your friends or competitors? Do you think about it at all?
The biggest thing we do is stay on top of the show, so I think, across our team, we give everyone a lesson that AI will continue to improve. For us, we just need to stay on this border. We don’t think about competition. I think if you think about your competitors, you can stay, like, constantly, two weeks, or like, a month behind as much as possible. So it’s often not a good way to live on the border.
Anthropic released at least six brands last year and has already released nearly six this year. Do you expect this development to continue?
Our hope is that it will continue (laughs). I think these models are working very well, so we should continue to share them with our users. I think the deployment will look different – like we did with Glasswing, but as much as possible, we want this intelligence to benefit as many people as possible, and it should be handled very safely, that’s why we took care of Glasswing (the way we did).
(Glasswing is an Anthropic method was launched in April who invited a small group of corporate partners – including companies like Amazon, Apple, CrowdStrike, and Microsoft – to take advantage of its new cybersecurity solution, Mythos. Unlike many other Anthropic AI models, Mythos is not offered to the general public. The company has said it fears the version – which is designed to scan codebases for software vulnerabilities – is too powerful, and could contain tools and malicious actors.)
You’ve mentioned in previous interviews that the future of work is for employees to manage teams of agents. It seems that this can make agents better at the job, or know the job, than people.
I think it’s very difficult to manage assistants if you can’t do the work yourself. I think managers still need to be experts in their roles. It’s a new skill that a lot of people have to learn, but managing managers is very similar to being a people manager, in the sense that you have to understand, like, why did the agent make this mistake? Did it misinterpret my instructions? Was my request not listed? You should be able to solve this problem.
It seems like the long term goal is to reduce the size of the team. Because if you have assistants working, then you don’t need an apprentice, right?
So, I think the idea is that everyone can do more. I think that, in everyone’s work, there is always an amount that is boring. For me, I answer emails. I think everyone has this part of their life… So my hope is that (AI assistants) really do that, and then everyone has, like, all the cool stuff they’ll want to build (in their spare time).
What are you most excited about in the next six months?
I think the next big thing is proactivity. Last year we were in this country of equal development. Currently, people are moving towards systems, such as automation, for example, customer support ticket solutions. And I think the bottom line is that Mr. Claude understands what you do, and he makes some of these things for you.
