On March 16, 2026, Pakistan launched an airstrike on the Omid Drug Treatment Hospital in Kabul, Afghanistan, killing at least 269 people.

Pakistan said in a statement to the BBC that it was targeting “military and terrorist infrastructure”.

The BBC has spoken to the families of more than 30 victims, including recovering drug addicts, as well as staff at the centre, who reject Pakistan’s claims.

The United Nations, which was granted access to the scene, and the BBC Afghanistan Service, which rushed to the scene immediately afterwards, also confirmed that the attack hit civilians who were receiving medical treatment.
