Wes Anderson He’s one of the most consistent directors of his generation – you know what to expect with each of his films, and they’re all more or less pretty good. But he knocked it out of the park asteroid citya madman, Looney Tunes– Inspired comedy that stealthily transforms into a moving meditation on art and the universal human need to tell stories.
At a convention of young astronomers in the titular desert city, a UFO suddenly appears and removes a meteorite from a crater in the center of town. This surprising first contact by aliens became national news, causing a slew of various journalists, scientists, and religious groups to travel to the city to see if the UFOs would return. In the midst of all this chaos, a recently widowed father, Woodrow (Jason Schwartzman), struggling to reconcile his still lingering sadness with his romance with famous film actress Midge (Scarlett Johansson).
This is the basic plot asteroid citybut there’s more going on, like a framing device that makes everything you’re watching become an elaborate drama that’s also being filmed as a TV documentary. Confused? Well, it’s natural, but it’s also caused asteroid city So effective, touching – and so different from the director’s previous work. The cast includes Tom Hanks; tilda swinton, Adrien Brody and Margot Robbiea film packed with enough star power to keep you engaged, even if you get a little lost in its surreal story.
