At 14:15 local time on April 8, 2026, Israel launched a large-scale attack on Lebanon – just hours after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between the United States, Israel and Iran to suspend fighting in the Gulf region.
Israel said it struck 100 targets in 10 minutes, dashing Lebanese hopes that an Iranian pause in the fighting would also end violence there.
The latest conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, a Lebanese militia and political party funded and armed by Iran, began on March 2 after Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel, which responded with widespread air strikes and ground incursions into southern Lebanon.
Since then, Lebanon’s health ministry says more than 2,600 people have been killed and about a fifth of the population displaced, according to the United Nations.
