Model Ashley Graham has long been a pioneer in the body positivity movementalthough the GLP-1 trend arguably challenges strongly accepted concepts.
“It’s really frustrating,” Graham, 38, told us Marie Claire Magazine In a brief published Thursday, April 30. “There used to be a pendulum swing that was all about body acceptance, positivity (and) everyone being who they wanted to be. And now, it’s swung back the exact opposite way, and it’s like a gut punch to women who feel like they have a voice.”
Semaglutides and GLP-1 (including Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro) are commonly used to treat adults with weight-related conditions. However, many celebrities have since started using the controversial drug to lose weight Doctors warn against Use medications for casual weight loss.
“It evolves with the times — GLP-1 is of an era,” Graham admitted. “I know there are, and will still be, women who are considered plus-size forever. This drug will not erase the entire demographic of women.”
For Graham, she plans to continue building A ‘community’ of body-positive women.
“There are so many (plus-size influencers and creators). Their size, their proportions, their looks, their relevancy are all over the place,” the supermodel mused to the outlet. “To me, that’s the coolest part of it all. To see these girls who grew up on social media now come in and have a platform to say to the younger generation, ‘Be yourself and be who you want to be. If you have cellulite, who cares?'”
Graham, for her part, is still trying to come to terms with her postpartum body. (Graham There are three sons in total and her husband, Justin Owen.)
“I was living in a different body and it was hard to understand her,” she said of her postpartum figure. “I can’t say I can look in the mirror and say, ‘I love you.'” It wasn’t for me. It was, ‘Wow, I had some babies.’ ‘”
She continued, “When I got pregnant in 2019, I was in the best shape of my body. I’m still trying to get there, but I have to get over the idea in my head that I’m going to look like I was in my late 20s, early 30s. She’s gone. Let’s focus on the new girl. That’s been like the conversation I’ve had in my head for the past four years.”
