The DoD said the company’s AI tools and models will be deployed at Impact Level 6 (IL6) and Impact Level 7 (IL7) to “improve data synthesis, improve situational awareness, and enhance military decision-making.” IL6 and IL7 are the highest categories of data security and communications that are considered very important for national security, and require that these systems be physically protected, through regular access and search controls.
The Pentagon said more than 1.3 million DoD personnel have so far used its secure AI platform, GenAI.milwhich provides access to major languages ​​(LLMs) and other AI tools within a government-approved cloud environment. It is designed to help primarily with non-selective tasks such as research, note-taking, and data analysis.
