“I can’t pretend that I didn’t have some dark moments last year,” he told the outlet. “But you know, those dark moments made me see the light and make me grateful for every day and grateful for all my friends. Just happy to be alive.”

In the same interview, Neil shared how he began writing his memoir as a way to stay busy while undergoing treatment.

“I found myself with nothing to do,” he said. “I’m used to working. I love working. I love going to work. I love being around people every day and enjoying human companionship and friendship and all those things. And all of a sudden I’m being stripped of that. I’m like, ‘What am I going to do?'”

“I never set out to write a book,” he continued. “But as I continued to write, I realized that it actually gave me a reason to live, and I would go to bed thinking, ‘Tomorrow I’m going to write this…and it’s going to make me happy.’ So it was really a lifesaver because there was no way I was just going through this, you know.”

In an interview with 7News, Neil joked that now that the all-clear has been given, he’s back to his first love, showbiz.

“It’s time for me to make another movie,” he said.
