The president said in an interview on the show on Sunday, April 26 60 minutes He “wanted to see what was going on,” which led to Secret Service agents taking longer than the vice president to get him out of the Washington Hilton Ballroom in Washington, D.C. JD Vance.
“What happened was kind of like me,” Trump, 79, explained to CBS News. Norah O’Donnell. “I wanted to see what was going on, and I wasn’t making it easy for (the Gunners). I wanted to see what was going on. At that point, we started to realize that this could be a serious problem, a different type of problem, a bad problem, and different from the normal noise you hear in the ballroom all the time. I’m surrounded by great people, and I might have asked them to move a little slower. I said, ‘Wait a minute. Let me think about it.'”
Trump said he started to walk out of the ballroom during the commotion, but was advised by the Secret Service to get to the ground.
New details have emerged about the gunman who authorities believe targeted President Donald Trump and members of his administration at this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “I started walking with them. They said, ‘Get down on the floor,’ so I got down on the floor and the first lady got down on the floor,” he said.
Trump praises his wife, Melania Trumpto find out how she handled the situation, noting that unlike him, she had not been involved in a shooting before.
“I’m like, ‘I’ve been through this a few times before.'” She’s not quite there yet. She handled it very well. She is very strong and smart. She gets it,” he said. “She listens. When they say ‘come down’, that means there’s trouble. “
A 31-year-old California man, Cole Thomas AllenArrested in connection with Saturday’s shooting. He is expected to stand trial on Monday, April 27.
Erica Kirk was present when gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. CNN reports that Kirk, 37, was seen crying during chaos at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 25. After Saturday’s derailment, Trump told reporters he “Honoured” to be targeted by the suspected shooter.
“When you look at our great president, this doesn’t happen to people who do nothing,” he said.
“The man has been captured and they are going to his apartment. I guess he lives in California and he is a very sick man, a very sick man,” Trump added.
“I’m very shocked when something like this happens,” Trump said Saturday night. “This happened to me and it will never change. In fact, we were sitting next to each other and the first lady was sitting to my right and I heard a noise… I thought it was a pallet falling, it was pretty loud and it was coming from quite a distance away. (The suspect) never made it to the area. He did have a hold of him… but it was a gun.”
