MLB pitcher Cody Funderburkwife Alicia She was diagnosed with cancer while pregnant with the couple’s first child.
In a series of social media posts shared on Saturday, April 25, byX Cody, who recently rejoined the Minnesota Twins after taking paternity leave following the birth of daughter Murphy Jo on April 20, detailed Alicia’s health journey.
“Fundy is back from the parentage list, but we wanted to take a moment to share more of him and his wife’s story,” the post began, sharing a photo of Kody, 29, standing next to pregnant Alicia with a scarf wrapped around her head. one Second article shared another photo of a pregnant Alicia, this time sitting in a hospital chair.

The team announced the news after Alicia shared her diagnosis through Instagram on April 15, five days before Murphy arrived. “Some photo recaps and life updates from the past few months… from pregnancy to being diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma, life has had some surprises lately,” she captioned a carousel of photos that included photos shared by her husband’s MLB team. “While life at this stage is not what we imagined it would be, Cody and I are deeply grateful for all the love, prayers and support surrounding us. We are constantly reminded how blessed we are every step of the way.”
The post also commented on her excitement about welcoming Murphy into the world. “Baby Fundy is already loved (and obviously already loving keeping things fun). We can’t wait to meet them in a few days! ❤️,” she wrote at the time.
The twins announced Murphy’s arrival via an X upload, sharing in another post: “Baby Fundy arrived on Monday, April 20th, a healthy baby girl, Murphy Jo. Alicia and Murphy are both doing great!”
The team continued: “We are inspired by the strength and positivity shown by the Funderburk team. We wish them all the best and continue to support them on and off the field.”
Cody, who was drafted out of Dallas Baptist University in 2018 and made his MLB debut in 2023, told reporters St. Paul Pioneer Press In an interview on April 19, he said the cancer was detected “early enough” that an action plan was immediately put in place.
“It was more, ‘Okay, what do we need to do?'” the athlete told the outlet at the time. “Kind of like baseball, you get into your own process of, ‘OK, what’s next? OK, go do it. What’s next? OK, let’s do it.'”
