“I asked the network. We talked,” creator Jenny Snyder Ullman Tell TV Insider ahead of the season two finale on Thursday, April 23. “I just felt like we had a lot to think about because we actually landed the plane here and we really thought it was important because we didn’t want to keep dragging out the same story where the characters had to get to some real place emotionally.”
Urman confirmed that season 2 will conclude the Wellbrexa storyline, meaning a complete “reset” for the series.
“When we shot this two-hour finale and really put a lot of work into it, what came with it was that I needed time to really build the architecture so that we have it in the next season,” she joked. “I’m excited about it, but I’m also grateful because we need a little time.”
CBS’ fall 2026 lineup will look a little different after some shows went through surprising changes. Ullman addressed the potential for viewers to be disappointed, adding: “It’s sad for the audience, but it’s actually really good for me and the writers because I hope we can curate this new mystery and make sure it’s watertight.”
She continued: “We have a lot to produce, so we really have to create something new. I’m lucky that the network gave us the time to get it right because I don’t want the quality to drop.”
According to the official plot synopsisIn the Season 2 finale, the team will face “an unexpected final obstacle they need to overcome in order to bring Senior to justice for covering up the Wellbrexa incident. At the same time, they defend an airport ramp operator accused of safety negligence that resulted in the death of a passenger.”
