Nikki was scheduled to compete in Saturday’s Women’s Tag Team Championship match with her twin sister, Bree Garcia. However, after the two entered the match, Nikki revealed to viewers that she was unable to compete but had recruited another wrestler to take her place: Returning WWE Star Page (Real name Saraya-Jade Bevis). Brie, also 42, and Paige, 33, won the contest, beating Nia Jax and eyelash legend, Charlotte Flair and Alex Bliss and Bailey and Lyra Valkyrie.
During Saturday’s post-fight press conference, Nikki said she had surgery on her injured ankle just two weeks before the fight.
“I actually had surgery two weeks ago yesterday. So I managed to sprain my ankle and tear it,” she said.
Nikki said she met Paige (who left WWE in 2022) while undergoing surgery, and she and Brie knew right away that the British-born wrestler would be the perfect person to replace her on Saturday.
“So, listen, how crazy is this… when I traveled to Birmingham (Alabama) for my surgery, guess who was in Birmingham?” she said, referring to Paige, who was sitting next to her. “Brie and I were literally on the phone and I said, ‘Brie, there’s no way I can make WrestleMania, but you still have to have your moment,’ and both said at the same time, ‘The only person who can make it feel special is Saraya, Paige.’ “There’s no one else, and I really mean it, there’s no other WWE Superstar, past or present, that I would rather take my place than Paige. “
Nikki returned to WWE at the Royal Rumble in February 2025 after a few years away from the ring. Her sister Brie returned to the 2026 Royal Rumble in January.
