“FCB received the inquiry and took it into consideration,” a team spokesman told Reuters Saturday, April 18th. “However, following a thorough review, we have decided not to proceed with the project as, in line with our values, we are unable to provide a platform to the artists involved in this context.”
FC Basel oversees all matches played at the team’s stadium in the St. Jakob Park. According to Swiss newspapers, the team received a request from West, 48, to perform a concert in June.

Earlier this month, the UK’s Wireless Festival banned the rapper from performing in its summer concert series over his past anti-Semitic comments. The whole festival has since being canceled.
“The Home Office has withdrawn Ye’s ETA and refused him entry into the UK,” a representative for the campaign wrote in a statement on April 7. “As a result, Wireless Festival is canceled and refunds will be issued to all ticket holders. As with every Wireless Festival, we consulted with multiple stakeholders before booking Ye and no concerns were highlighted at the time.”
The statement continued, “Anti-Semitism in all its forms is abhorrent and we recognize the real and personal impact these issues have. As Ye said today, he acknowledges that words alone are not enough, but nonetheless welcomes the opportunity to start a dialogue with the UK’s Jewish community.”
In light of Wireless’s cancellation of the show, West offered to “meet and listen” with members of London’s Jewish community.
“I’ve been following the conversation about wireless and wanted to address the issue head on,” the artist said in a statement. “My only goal is to come to London and present a change, bringing unity, peace and love through my music.”
